Are You Really You?
Oscar Wilde believed that “Most people are other people. Their thoughts are someone else’s opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation”.
I can’t agree more.
What Wilde failed to elaborate is the reason why.
Well, think back to your own childhood and how you accumulated what you know, it is hardly a challenge to find out that you have been a collector of others’ ideas and have not used your capacity of critical thinking to examine what you have been told.
To a child, what’s said by your parents, teachers, friends, social media influencers, YouTubers, and authors must be true. Becoming adult would not suddenly turn you into an inquisitive mind with sharp logical thinking.
There is a very simple solution to this loss of identity. If you try it, you’ll suddenly realize the kind of thinking power within yourself that has eluded your own consciousness all these years.
The solution is to ask “why” to everything.
